The origins of Mata Construction began in 1975 when Clifford Lee established a Civil Engineering and Groundworks company in Damerham, Hampshire called C J Lee & Sons.
Clifford’s dream was to create a family run business where his children would eventually take over. C J Lee & Sons quickly became a leading groundworks company in Hampshire and Dorset due to their unrivalled service, quality and dedication.
In 1992, Clifford’s dream became a reality when he handed over the reigns to his children. One of his sons, Fred, became an integral part of the company’s growth throughout the 1980s and 1990s. During this time Fred had three daughters – Hattie, Connie and Elsie and it didn’t take long for them to follow in Fred’s footsteps and show a passion for construction. The business was a huge part of their lives from conversations about new projects over dinner to spending hours in the office at the weekend.
Fast forward to 2016 when Fred and Elsie fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting the Lord of the Rings film set based in Matamata, New Zealand. It was at this moment that they talked about creating a new family company.
With this… Mata Construction was born.
